More Movies of the 70’s

1976

1977

1978

  1. Rocky: Adrian!
  2. Carrie: This was the first horror movie I ever saw that was completely ruled by women. Protagonists, antagonists, killers and victims. Brian DePalma brings Stephen King’s 1st novel to life in a way that has never quite been replicated. Shout out to Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie.
  3. The Bad News Bears: Walter Matthau was always a grumpy old man apparently. Here he leads a hilarious group of misfit kids led by Tatum O’Neil and, believe it or not, Jackie Earle Haley
  4. The Omen: The reason you have never met another human named Damien.
  5. Taxi Driver
  6. Network
  7. The Shootest: My parents made me watch a lot of John Wayne movies, only a few of which I thought were any good. (True Grit being very good) But this, his last film was one of his best.
  8. Freaky Friday: This is the Original here kids. Jodie Foster NOT Lindsay Lohan,
  9. Carwash: George Carlin and Richard Prior together!!
  10. All the President’s Men
  1. Star Wars: A New Hope: Obviously!
  2. Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Aliens and making vcanoes out of mashed potatoes….
  3. The Rescuers: An often over-looked Disney classic!
  4. Pete’s Dragon: The first movie I ever saw in a movie theater! I was 4.
  5. The Hobbit: Rankin Bass at its best! Whatever your thoughts are on Peter Jackson’s over-bloated 3 movie mess, there are parts of it he got right! One scene in particular- the chilling 20 minutes Martin Freeman’s Bilbo spends in the dark, trading riddles with Andy Serkis’ Gollum. I was terrified of this moment as a child watching the cartoon and beat for beat Jackson recreated it. Watch it yourself and tell me I’m wrong!
  6. The Turning Point: its about ballet and Burishnikov is in it. Nuff said.
  7. The Goodbye Girl: so good they turned it into a musical!!
  8. Smokey and the Bandit: Hal Needham’s first race car collaboration with Bert Reynolds. It was the 2nd higest grossing movie of the year! Sally Field and Jackie Gleason co-star.
  9. Emmet Otter’s Jug Band Xmas: Does this one count? I hope so! It’s a full length movie after all! And everyone loves it!!
  10. Candleshoe: Most of you haven’t heard of this one- it’s another Jodie Foster. I was a bit of a fan as a kid. This one is kind of an Anastasia rip off. It’s fun though maybe not amazing. Still I watched it all the time and I highly recommend. You’ll recognize a bunch of old Disney favorites in it!
  1. Grease: We listened to this album so many times at my friend Jen’s house we wore it out.
  2. The Wiz: Ok, its a terrible movie….,but I do love it.
  3. Superman: Duh.
  4. Every Which Way But Loose: Am I the only person who watched this one? Clint Eastwood? He has an orangutan as a pet. His name is Clyde. No? Ok fine.
  5. Halloween
  6. Ice Castles: Danced to the academy award winning song from this movie for my first ever dance recital solo. My dance teacher made me wear a yellow costume and I never forgave her for it. But it was still a great routine.
  7. Invasion of the Body Snatchers: This one was always scarier than Halloween to me.
  8. Jaws 2: Just as upsetting as the first one, plus the kid dies!
  9. The Lord of the Rings: Continuation of the Hobbit cartoon.
  10. Watership Down: For an animated feature, its nightmarish. But I watched it every single time it played.
